Italian police discover 1,800 cannabis roots while investigating energy theft

Around 1,800 marijuana plants, in the growth phase, were seized in Rosali, on the outskirts of Reggio Calabria, by the carabinieri, who arrested two people for electricity theft.

The discovery was made during an operation by officers engaged in an activity aimed at suppressing illegal connections to the electrical grid, during which they discovered a greenhouse full of cannabis.

Inside the structure, the carabinieri found a sophisticated lighting and ventilation system to encourage plant growth. In addition, a room used as a growth chamber was discovered, equipped with halogen lamps, a fan and heating mats to ensure optimal conditions for cultivation.

In addition to the plantation, sixteen bags of marijuana already dried and ready for market were also seized, with a total weight of over 170 kilograms.

The two owners, placed under house arrest solely for stealing electricity, stated that the goods were cannabis sativa, destined for the so-called "cannabis light" market.

Several samples of the substance were taken and analyzed in the laboratories of the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria. The tests, the Carabinieri report, revealed a THC value higher than the legal limits. For this reason, the production plant, which included three greenhouses containing a total of 1,800 plants in various stages of growth, was seized. (A2 Televizion)
