"They are hindering our work" - WHO condemns Israeli attacks on its

The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that Israel's ground offensive in central Gaza has hampered its efforts to continue its work, as its facilities have been hit.

This United Nations agency has accused Israeli forces of attacking a building where its staff and their families were sheltering in the city of Deir al-Balah, and of mistreatment of those who were in those areas.

The Israeli military has not yet commented on these claims.

Thousands of Palestinians have been forced to flee as a result of the first major Israeli military operation in Deir al-Balah since the start of the war instigated by Hamas - a terrorist organization designated by the United States and other powers - 21 months ago.

The UN has said it is receiving information about malnourished people arriving at clinics and hospitals in very serious condition.

On Sunday, the Israeli army ordered the immediate evacuation of six blocks south of Deir al-Balah, warning that it would operate "with great force to destroy enemy capabilities and terrorist infrastructure."

It is estimated that 50,000-80,000 people who lived in the affected areas have been ordered to go to southern Gaza.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has said that UN staff will continue to remain in Deir al-Balah, despite the evacuation order.

According to this organization, about 87 percent of Gaza is now covered by Israeli evacuation orders, forcing 2.1 million people to squeeze into a territory of 46 square kilometers where even the most basic things are lacking.

Israeli sources have said that the possible presence of Israeli hostages held by Hamas is the reason why Deir al-Balah has not been targeted by any ground offensive so far.

At least 20 to 50 hostages still being held are believed to be alive.

Families of the hostages have expressed concern, saying the offensive could put them at risk.

Israel launched its military campaign in Gaza in response to the attack carried out by Hamas in southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed 1,200 people and took about 240 others hostage.

According to Palestinian health authorities, over 59,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since then./ REL (A2 Televizion)
