President Trump to undergo medical checkup

President Donald Trump, 78, will undergo a routine medical checkup in the coming weeks, the White House said in a statement released on Saturday.

"President Donald J. Trump will undergo a routine medical checkup next month at the National Military Medical Center," the March 1 announcement said.

"The date of the medical check-up will be announced in the coming weeks," said the statement signed by his doctor, Sean Barbabella, a career military doctor who served in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Despite his age, President Trump enjoys good physical condition and is full of energy. But in the past, medical checkups have raised questions about the transparency of the details of the results.

Although President Trump does not drink alcohol or smoke, he is known for his passion for fast food and grilled meat. His only physical exercise is playing golf.

A medical checkup during his first term in 2018 suggested the president should aim to lose about 10 pounds, but he was generally in “excellent health.” His doctor said he had no signs of any mental health problems and that with a healthier diet, he could “live to 200 years old.”

A year later, a medical examination of the 1.9-meter-tall leader showed that he weighed 110 kilograms, about 3 kilograms more than before he took office, and that he was taking medication to treat cholesterol.

During Mr. Trump's 2015 presidential campaign, his doctor, Harold Bornstein, released a letter saying that Mr. Trump's blood pressure was "surprisingly excellent" and that if elected, "Mr. Trump, I can say without a doubt, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the White House."

Dr. Bornstein later told CNN that Mr. Trump himself "dictated the entire letter. I did not write that letter." VOA (A2 Televizion)
