Kim Jong Un reappears, North Korea launches first spy satellite, concern in

North Korean state television has released footage of leader Kim Jong Un personally watching and overseeing the launch of the North's first spy satellite. Officials in South Korea and Japan said they were unable to verify, at least for now, where the satellite was headed, whether it was in orbit or not.

Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said the US military is investigating whether the launch was successful or not. Pyongyang's state television, KCNA, said the satellite, Malligyong-1, was launched from the Sohae Satellite Launch Facility on Tuesday, November 21, and entered orbit half an hour later.

Earlier, North Korea had informed Japan that it planned to launch satellites between November 22 and December 1, following two attempts earlier this year to launch spy satellites. (A2 Televizion)
