Russia offered to stop the war in Ukraine on the condition that the Ukrainian government renounce its ambition to join NATO. This is what "Kyiv Post" reports, citing the head of the Ukrainian delegation in the talks with Moscow, David Arakhamia.
According to him, the proposal came in the spring of 2022, in the first phase of the war, on Ukraine's border with Belarus and in Turkey. As it is learned, Russia had requested that Kiev sign an agreement to maintain military neutrality, but that the Ukrainian side had not accepted, in the absence of security guarantees.
"We did not believe that the Russians would do what they said. "Signing an agreement without security guarantees would leave Ukraine vulnerable to a second incursion, as it would give Russia the opportunity to regroup and prepare for a new wave of aggression," said David Arakhamia, Ukraine's former negotiator.
And while the negotiations of that time ended without any result, the fate of the war in Ukraine continues to be determined on the battlefield for almost two years. Russia has signaled that it intends to intensify its offensive on the eve of winter, again targeting energy infrastructure.
Attacks have intensified in recent weeks, with Kiev experiencing on Saturday what authorities described as the biggest wave of drone attacks since the start of the war. In the last few hours, Russian forces attacked 6 settlements in the territory of Sumy, where 142 explosions were reported. Amidst plans for a second mobilization, Russia is facing shortages in the ranks of the army and major recruitment difficulties. According to a survey by the company "Russian Field", 58 percent of respondents oppose the idea, while only 32 percent support it. (A2 Televizion)
