More Israeli hostages were released on Sunday afternoon. Hamas confirmed that it has handed over 14 Israeli hostages, 3 of Thai nationality and one Russian, to the Red Cross.
Meanwhile, the IDF clarified that it is about a citizen with two nationalities, Russian and Israeli, and it is about a total of 17 hostages already free and handed over to the Israeli authorities. Among the hostages, the smallest is a little girl, who turned 4 when she was held hostage by Hamas militants.
Her name is Avigail Idan, who on October 7, when Hamas militants entered her home and killed her parents, managed to escape and leave the house, but a few meters away she was captured by another group.
Immediately after the news that other hostages were returned to Israel, American President Joe Biden said that the parties reached this moment thanks to intensive American diplomacy, which, according to the head of the White House, continues to demand further postponement of the ceasefire. But the big question now is: what happens after the ceasefire ends on Monday? According to the agreement, out of 230 hostages in total, only 50 will be released. For every returnee to Israel, the latter has agreed to release 3 Palestinians, women or teenagers, from prison.
Despite wanting to release the hostages any day, Israel and internationals fear the break could give Hamas time to regroup and organize defenses before a resumption of Israel's bombing campaign.
At the same time, if the hostage release is successful even on the fourth day, the Tel Aviv government may face increasing pressure to negotiate the release of each hostage. Meanwhile, the truce, although temporary, brought back to Gaza the peace and tranquility that had been forgotten for the Palestinians since the start of the war. (A2 Televizion)
