US federal agents have discovered a sophisticated tunnel connecting El Paso, Texas, to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. The tunnel was equipped with electricity and a ventilation system, which was used by traffickers to transport people and drugs.
According to reports to local authorities in El Paso, the tunnel was about 1.2 meters wide and 1.8 meters high, and was connected to the storm water drainage system on Boone Street, just a few meters from the border.
Views from inside the tunnel show the long road and the structure supported only by wooden beams. Investigations so far have revealed that the tunnel was built during the last year. Agents have launched an operation to find and arrest the people responsible for its creation and use.
El Paso Border Patrol Chief Anthony Good praised the work of agents who discovered the tunnel and criticized the dangers of using such routes.
This discovery follows the discovery of another tunnel on the Arizona-Mexico border. In 2020, the longest tunnel ever was unveiled between Tijuana and San Diego, equipped with a rail and elevator system. (A2 Televizion)
