Six students of the Hellenic Air Force (Ikaron) were arrested outside the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul last Saturday for unfurling Greek flags. Greek media reported that the students (three Greeks and three Cypriots) had taken Christmas holidays, but had not notified their service that they would be traveling abroad and specifically to Turkey, and had not received the appropriate approval.
When they arrived outside the temple and unfurled the flag, they were spotted by MIT officials and arrested for violating Turkey's foreign symbols law.
With diplomatic intervention, the students were released and returned to Greece, where disciplinary measures await them. (A2 Televizion)
