For those who support Kosovo's independence, UN Resolution 1244 is the biggest bone in their throat, because whether they like it or not, it confirms and guarantees Serbia's sovereignty in international legal terms.

These are the words of the Russian ambassador to Serbia, Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, who emphasizes that resolving the Kosovo issue outside the UN is impossible. According to him, without Russia's consistent and determined stance, there would be no resolution 12 44.

"The main position and desire of Western countries that have supported Kosovo before was to bypass Resolution 1244 on the most important points that ensure and guarantee Serbia's sovereignty," Bocan-Kharchenko told Informer television.

He added that any solution, regardless of the means, should and can only be achieved by a decision of the UN Security Council, and stressed that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in a conversation with his Serbian counterpart Marko Djuric in Moscow, stressed that Russia will support Resolution 1244.
