UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a four-point plan to work with Ukraine to end the war and protect the country from Russia.
"The United Kingdom, France and other countries will step up their efforts in a 'coalition' and seek to include the United States in their support for Ukraine," he said on Sunday after convening a summit of 18 leaders, mainly from Europe, including President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"We are at a crossroads in history today," Starmer said after the summit, while Zelensky added that Kiev felt "strong support" and the summit showed "European unity at an extremely high level that has not been seen for a long time."
This summit comes two days after the fierce confrontation between the Ukrainian leader and US President Donald Trump at the White House.
"We are all working together in Europe to find a basis for cooperation with America for real peace and guaranteed security," Zelensky said.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron told Le Figaro newspaper that Paris and London wanted to propose a month-long ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine "in the air, at sea and in energy infrastructure."
Speaking at a press conference immediately after the leaders' meeting, Starmer said four points that had been agreed were:
1-Continuing military aid to Ukraine and increasing economic pressure on Russia
2- Any lasting peace must ensure Ukraine's sovereignty and security, and Ukraine must be present in any peace talks.
3-In the event of a peace agreement, Ukraine's defense capability must be increased to deter any future invasion.
4- Creating a "coalition of the willing" to defend an agreement in Ukraine and guarantee peace afterwards.
The Prime Minister did not state which countries have agreed to join this coalition, but said that those who have committed will intensify planning with real urgency. (A2 Televizion)
