Super robbery, 15 million euros were taken from the bank's sewers, betrayed by "bread crumbs"

A 15 million euro robbery took place in Casale Monferrato, in the province of Alessandria, between 18 and 19 November 2023. The robbers entered the vault of the Intesa Sanpaolo bank by going through the sewer network and breaking through a wall.

They managed to empty 253 safes without being noticed, but a small mistake betrayed them. They consumed food during the robbery, and the remains of the food were found by forensic police. This DNA evidence enabled authorities to link the suspects to the incident.

In total, 11 people were accused by the Vercelli Public Prosecutor's Office of organizing the robbery. Each individual had a specific role in the criminal operation. Some were responsible for the organization, others for logistical support, while some had rented a premises next to the bank to enable the tunnel that would lead to the safe. The robbers also used part of the city's sewer network to reach their target.

One of the main suspects is Marco Scutto, a person known for his criminal activities, who is currently in prison for another incident. He is accused of being the "mastermind" of the operation and led the plan to carry out the robbery. Scutto is a well-known person in Campania, who has been involved in other criminal events, such as an attempted murder of several of his associates.

Among the suspects are Giuseppe Esposito, who is accused of building the tunnel that led to the bank vault, and Andrea Cerbone, who is suspected of being responsible for transporting the loot abroad. Mario Palma also rented a safe deposit box at the bank to study the movements of employees and prepare the robbery.

The prosecution has pointed out that each person had a clear role, from those who carried out the role of vigilance to warn of any suspicious movements outside the bank, to those who managed the logistics of the tunnel and the transportation of the loot.

According to investigations, the robbers had attempted to carry out the same robbery twice before, in 2021, but had failed to complete it due to external obstacles such as the halt of works due to construction in the area.

In the end, the robbers managed to get a considerable amount, stealing a large portion of the property located in 253 safety deposit boxes, with a total value of 15 million euros. (A2 Televizion)
