While the debate about the circulation of skateboards continues in our country, following the accident involving 3 minors a few days ago on Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard, in Italy the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has set new rules for the circulation of electric scooters.
According to Italian media, this decision makes the "plate" mandatory, which is not linked to the vehicle, but to the driver. It is an identification sticker, non-removable, produced by the State Mint and distributed by the Civil Motorization, writes A2 CNN.
The new permit will be rectangular (5x6 cm), with six black alphanumeric characters on a reflective white background. It will be applied to the rear or, alternatively, to the front of the scooter, between 20 and 120 cm from the ground. In case of absence, fines of 100 to 400 euros are foreseen.
The Highway Code reform also imposes the obligation to wear a helmet for everyone, regardless of age, and to drive only on urban roads with a speed limit of 50 km/h. The first fines were issued in recent months, but the implementing decree on license plates and insurance was still missing, reports A2 CNN.
Unlike cars and motorcycles, the license plate will not be linked to the vehicle, but to the person requesting it. This is because scooters are not registered in the National Vehicle Archive and do not have a chassis number. The aim is to identify those who violate the rules and provide compensation in case of accidents.
The measure will enter into force 15 days after publication in the Official Gazette, but there are still doubts about the timing.
