Trump: We will send Patriot missiles to Kiev, but the EU will pay

United States President Donald Trump said he would send Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, as his administration signaled growing frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin's refusal to negotiate an end to Moscow's occupation.

"I haven't agreed on the number of Patriots to be sent yet, but the Ukrainians will have some because they need protection and the EU will pay. We won't pay anything, but we will send them."

At Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Sunday, US President Donald Trump said:

"I am very disappointed" with Russian leader Vladimir Putin: He talks so well and then in the evening he blows it all up," the tycoon said, returning to his criticism of the Kremlin leader, reports A2 CNN.

Trump's comments come after he confirmed last week that his administration had decided to sell weapons to NATO allies in Europe, so they could take over Kiev.

Trump is expected to meet this week with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte for discussions that are expected to focus on his plans to supply Kiev with weapons.

Rutte's trip to Washington, DC, comes at a time when Trump has warned that he will make a "major statement" on Russia on Monday, writes A2 CNN.

On Sunday, Axios, citing two unidentified sources, reported that Trump's announcement would include "offensive weapons" for Ukraine.

After campaigning on a promise to quickly end the war in Ukraine, Trump has expressed growing frustration with Putin's refusal to agree to a peace deal.

While Putin has agreed to brief pauses in the fighting, he has rejected US proposals for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire. (A2 Televizion)
