A federal court in the US has suspended the Trump administration's decision to ban transgender people from the military, citing the principle of equality.
Citing the United States Declaration of Independence, which states that "all human beings are created equal," the Washington judge thus blocked the executive order signed in January by the US president.
President Trump banned transgender military enlistment in 2017, although active-duty personnel were allowed to remain. The order was rescinded by Joe Biden in 2021.
The US military has 1.3 million active duty personnel, and it is estimated that there are 15,000 transgender people among them.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has promised to make major changes to the Pentagon, and has listed the removal of diversity and inclusion in the military among key priorities. (A2 Televizion)
