United States President Donald Trump said he wanted to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin soon to secure an end to the nearly three-year war with Ukraine, lamenting what he called the huge loss of life.
In the wake of his victory in the Nov. 5 election, Trump declared dozens of times that he would have a deal between Ukraine and Russia on his first day in office, if not before. His advisers now acknowledge that the conflict will take months to resolve.
"I would like to meet with President Putin soon and get the war over with. And it doesn't come from an economic standpoint or anything else. It comes from the standpoint of the millions of lives that are being lost. Bullets continue to take human lives. And bullets are only stopped by human bodies. People are being shot on the battlefield, like I said, the bullet doesn't hide. We have to stop this war, it's terrible," Trump declared, writes A2.
Trump emphasized that "Putin wanted denuclearization." The tycoon recalls having a conversation about this with the Russian President in 2020, shortly before the election he lost to Joe Biden: "I can tell you that Putin liked the idea of that, of cutting off nuclear weapons. And I think the rest of the world should have followed this project. China likes this too."
The only way the war between Russia and Ukraine will end is to lower the price of oil, Trump stressed from Davos. He noted that he would communicate with Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman: “It has been reported in the newspapers that Saudi Arabia will invest at least $600 billion in America, but I will ask the Crown Prince, who is a fantastic guy, to round that amount up to about $1 trillion. I think we will do that, because we have been very good to them. Frankly, I am surprised that they did not do it before the election. Right now the price is high enough that you have to lower the price of oil, they should have done it a long time ago, to a certain extent for what has been taken. Millions of lives are being lost. If prices go down, the war between Russia and Ukraine will definitely end. Right now, prices are too high and so the war is still going on. You have to lower the price and so the war stops. "They should have done this a long time ago. They are very responsible, as millions of lives are being lost."
Some of his harshest criticism was reserved for traditional US allies Canada and the European Union, whom he again threatened with new tariffs, while berating their import policies, blaming them for the US goods trade deficit with these partners. (A2 Televizion)
