The war between Israel and Iran risks taking an even more dangerous turn, as the United States is considering joining attacks against the Islamic Republic.
Sources cited by CNN say that President Donald Trump is increasingly opening up to the possibility of using US military assets against Iran's nuclear infrastructure, thus moving away from the idea of a diplomatic solution to the conflict, writes A2.
While the possibility of the US Air Force engaging in refueling Israeli planes is initially being considered, the door is being kept open for direct US military intervention if things escalate. Such a move would represent a significant reversal in Trump's stance, who has significantly hardened his tone in recent hours, most recently demanding unconditional surrender from Iran.
In a post on the Social Truth network, he conveyed a clear message to Supreme Leader Khamenei: "We know exactly where the so-called 'Supreme Leader' of Iran is hiding. He is an easy target, but he is still safe there. We will not kill him, at least for now."
Ayatollah Khamenei's response was not long in coming, as he warned in a post on the social network X that the country would not be merciless towards Israeli leaders.
"The battle begins now," Khamenei said, as he promised a strong regime against what he called the Zionist terrorist regime. Israel has been pressuring Trump to become more involved in the campaign to destroy Iran's nuclear weapons, something that would require American weapons and aircraft.
The two countries have continued to trade missile strikes, with Israel claiming to have struck a centrifuge and weapons production site in Tehran. Iran says it has also used hypersonic missiles in attacks against Israel, but international correspondents have reported that the scale of the attacks has reduced.
Tehran, meanwhile, warns that it has not yet used its most powerful weapons. Washington announced that its embassy in Israel will remain closed until Friday. (A2 Televizion)
