US President-elect Donald Trump spoke about a photo that went viral of himself and former Democratic President Barack Obama at Jimmy Carter's funeral on Thursday.
The pair sat together at the late former President's memorial service in Washington DC on Thursday and could be seen talking to each other for several minutes.
Obama was seen shaking his head as his successor spoke before smiling. Asked about that part, Trump said: "I didn't realize how friendly he sounded."
"I said, 'Boy, they look like two people who like each other.' And we probably do," Trump said, according to A2 CNN.
"We have a little bit of a different philosophy, don't we? Yeah, maybe we do. I don't know. But we got along. But I got along with almost everybody there," Trump continued.
The friendly exchange between them comes after years of criticizing each other in the public eye; it was Mr. Trump who spread the so-called "birther" conspiracy theory about Mr. Obama in 2011, claiming that he was not born in the United States.
The insults continued for years, with Mr Obama devoting his final speech at the 2016 White House Correspondents' Dinner to jokes at the expense of his political rival.
Trump has repeatedly attacked the Obama family, saying the former president was "ineffective" and "terrible" and calling former first lady Michelle Obama "nasty" until October of last year, writes A2 CNN.
On the Kamala Harris campaign trail last year, Obama said Trump was a "78-year-old billionaire who hasn't stopped crying about his problems since nine years ago," while the former first lady said the "consequences that for him to be President again are brutally severe". (A2 Televizion)
