Brazilian congresswoman Carla Zambelli, sentenced to 10 years in prison by Brazil's Supreme Court for hacking the computer system of the National Council of Justice, has been arrested in Rome. She left Brazil on May 25, passing first to Argentina and then to the United States, arriving in Italy on June 5, where she sought to run for elected office but later abandoned this plan, A2 CNN reports.
Zambelli, who also has Italian citizenship, was internationally wanted and had an extradition request issued by Brazilian authorities. After several weeks of investigation, she was located in Rome, where she was arrested. Her address was reported by Italian MP Angelo Bonelli.
"Zambelli is in an apartment in Rome. I gave the address to the police," he wrote on social media, reports A2 CNN.
Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said that at the time of entering Italy, Zambelli had no information on file that would allow her detention.
Meanwhile, Matteo Salvini, the leader of the League, has expressed his desire to visit him in prison.
Carla Zambelli is a member of former President Jair Bolsonaro's party, has Italian citizenship and was convicted by the Brazilian Supreme Court for hacking the computer system of the National Council of Justice.
