Ukraine: Russia carried out largest drone attack since the beginning of the

Ukraine says Russia has launched its largest drone attack since the start of the full-scale invasion, targeting several regions including Kiev, where a woman died.

According to foreign media, it is known that Russia had launched 273 drones by 08:00 on Sunday, targeting the central Kiev region and the Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions in the east, the Ukrainian air force said.

The attacks came just a day before a planned phone call between Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the US president calling for a ceasefire, A2 CNN reports.

Russia and Ukraine held their first face-to-face talks in more than three years in Turkey on Friday, but they yielded little beyond a new agreement on prisoner exchanges.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Sunday that he and the leaders of Britain, France and Poland would hold a virtual meeting with Trump, ahead of his talk with Putin on Monday morning.

On Sunday, the Ukrainian air force reported that Russia had launched a record number of drones, including Shahed attack drones, of which 88 were intercepted and another 128 lost their way "without negative consequences."

Officials announced that the attacks killed one person on the outskirts of Kiev and injured at least three others, writes A2 CNN.

The previous largest drone attack by Russia occurred on the third anniversary of the full-scale invasion on February 23, when Moscow launched 267 drones.

Ukrainian officials said Saturday night's attacks showed Russia had no intention of stopping the fighting, despite international pressure for a ceasefire.

"For Russia, the negotiations [on Friday] in Istanbul are just a pretense. Putin wants war," said Andriy Yermak, a senior aide to the Ukrainian president.

Volodymyr Zelensky was at the Vatican on Sunday where he had a private meeting with Pope Leo after the new pope's inauguration mass. He also met briefly with US Vice President JD Vance in Rome. (A2 Televizion)
