The Israel Defense Forces destroyed tens of thousands of humanitarian aid items, including large quantities of food intended for Gaza residents, which had spoiled and expired after being left waiting for weeks on the Palestinian side of the Kerem Shalom border crossing, Israeli broadcaster Kan reported, citing military sources, A2 CNN reports.
According to sources, the amount of supplies destroyed is estimated at over a thousand trucks.
“We buried everything and even burned some. Even today, there are thousands of packages waiting in the sun, and if they are not transferred to Gaza, we will be forced to destroy them ,” a source said.
The news of the destruction of aid comes as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, due to a shortage of food and basic necessities, worsens by the day. The source cited by Khan attributed the destruction to a problem in the distribution mechanism.
