Pope Francis died of a stroke. This is the cause of death confirmed by the Vatican State.
The stroke early Monday morning led to a coma and heart failure in the 88-year-old head of the Catholic Church. The statement also noted that Francis was suffering from several other health problems.
Italian media had previously reported that the cause of death was a cerebral hemorrhage. The newspaper "La Repubblica", for example, cited doctors at the Gemelli hospital, who had treated Francis for breathing problems in recent months, writes A2 CNN.
Pope Francis said he wanted to be buried in a “simple” tomb in the Basilica of Rome. “The tomb should be in the ground, simple, without special decoration and with the only inscription: Francisco,” the pope said in his will, which was published by the Vatican. He will be the first pope in more than a century to be buried outside the Vatican. (A2 Televizion)
