London's Heathrow Airport resumed full operations on Saturday, a day after a fire broke out, knocking out power and shutting down one of Europe's busiest airports, causing global chaos.
The travel industry faced major difficulties in rescheduling passenger flights after a major fire broke out at an electrical substation at the airport.
Some flights resumed on Friday evening, but the closure of the world's fifth-busiest airport for most of the day left tens of thousands of people scrambling for hotel rooms and replacement flights as airlines scrambled to get planes and crews back to base. Entire teams were deployed to support affected passengers.
The airport was due to handle 1,351 flights on Friday carrying over 291,000 passengers, but planes were diverted to other airports in Britain and around Europe, while many others were returned to their point of departure. (A2 Televizion)
