"The year 2025 will bring peace with Russia", Zelenskyy optimistic

The year 2025 will be the year in which Russia and Ukraine will achieve peace. This is what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared in a video link with delegates from 10 European countries at the European Joint Forces meeting in Tallinn, Estonia, declaring that the war could end next year.

"Next year could be the year of the end of this war, and we must make sure that it is so," Zelensky said. "We must reach a peace that Putin can no longer break, a true and lasting peace."

The European Joint Force is a coalition of 10 countries led by the United Kingdom, including Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, linked in operational defense matters in Northern Europe.

According to a joint statement, these countries pledged to provide more than 12 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine next year. "Comprehensive, just and lasting peace requires the total and unconditional withdrawal of all Russian forces and military assets from the entire territory of Ukraine, within its internationally recognized borders," the coalition said in a statement.

Meanwhile, according to Ukraine, Russia has launched an "intense" counteroffensive in the Russian border region of Kursk.

"North Korean army units" were involved in the offensive, Ukrainian army chief Oleksandr Syrskyj said on Tuesday. "For the third day the enemy is carrying out intensive attacks in the Kursk region," Oleksandr Syrskyi told government and regional officials in an online speech. He added that Russia was "actively" using North Korean troops which were suffering significant losses.

On Monday, Ukrainian intelligence reported that at least 30 North Korean soldiers fighting on the Russian side were killed or wounded in fighting in Kursk over the weekend. According to the US and South Korea, about 10,000 soldiers from North Korea are stationed in Russia.

Two and a half years after the start of Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine, the Ukrainian army suddenly occupied the Russian border region of Kursk in early August, but has since had to relinquish much of the occupied area. (A2 Televizion)
