Robert Francis Prevost has been elected the new leader of the Catholic Church following the death of Francis.
The 69-year-old Prevost is from America, while during his tenure in this position he has chosen to keep the name Leo XIV.
The election of Prevost took place after 3 votes of 133 cardinals, who managed to obtain an absolute majority of votes.
More than 100,000 believers gathered in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican to greet the new Pope, who came out onto the balcony to greet them.
"Dear brothers and sisters! This is the first greeting of the Risen Christ, the Good Shepherd who gave his life for the flock of God. I too would like this greeting of peace to enter your hearts, to reach your families, to all people, wherever they are, to all peoples, to the whole earth," the new Pope said to the faithful.
