Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has invited his US counterpart Donald Trump to visit his country before any deal with Russia to end the war.
"Please, before any kind of decision, any kind of form of negotiations, come and see people, civilians, fighters, hospitals, churches, children destroyed or dead," Zelensky said in an interview with CBS's 60 Minutes program.
According to foreign media, the interview was recorded before a Russian missile hit the city of Sumy, killing 34 people and injuring 117 others.
Russia said it only strikes military or military-related targets, while Trump said he was told what had happened was a mistake, without specifying who told him, writes A2 CNN.
Germany's acting Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, has accused Russia of a war crime after the attack on Sumy, Ukraine.
The attack on Sumy comes as the US, Ukraine's strongest military ally, is seeking an end to the war, now in its fourth year, through negotiations under Trump.
Asked about the attack, the US president said it was "terrible" and added that he had been "told they made a mistake", but did not provide additional details.
Earlier, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, retired General Keith Kellogg, said the attack had crossed "every line of decency," A2 CNN writes.
However, it remains to be seen whether Trump will accept Zelensky's invitation to visit Ukraine before signing any ceasefire agreement with Russia. (A2 Televizion)
