The American ambassador in Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, said on Friday that American agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are directly engaged in Kosovo, in the investigations to find the culprits behind the attack on the Ibër-Lepenci channel.
The Ibër-Lepenci canal was attacked on November 29 in the village of Varragë in the municipality of Zubin Potok - a municipality with a Serbian majority in the north of the country.
The Ibër-Lepenc Canal supplies water from Lake Ujman to the entire north of Kosovo, the regions of Mitrovica, Pristina and its surroundings, as well as the Kosovo Energy Corporation for cooling its thermal power plants.
Hovenier, outgoing ambassador, said in an interview for Klan Kosova television, that the investigations to find those responsible are continuing and the USA is helping in this process.
"We have brought the support of the FBI here in Kosovo to work directly full-time with law enforcement authorities to identify those responsible," said Hovenier, who once again condemned the attack.
Currently, he said he cannot determine who is behind the attack.
The Kosovo Police said that the attack was carried out with explosives weighing up to 20 kilograms.
Kosovo has blamed Serbia for this attack, which it considered terrorist, while the official Belgrade has denied everything.
For the Kosovo authorities, this was the heaviest attack on the country's critical infrastructure since the war of 1998/99, and the damages amount to around 400,000 euros.
Even the American envoy for the Balkans, Alexander Kasanof, has told the Voice of America that the USA condemns the attack in the highest degree.
"What I can say is that such acts are not only terrible, but they are clearly designed to create instability and we reject them in the strongest way", said Kasanof, among other things.
In addition to the USA, the European Union has also strongly condemned the attack. REL (A2 Televizion)
