The President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, has emphasized that there is an extremely high risk of external interventions in the Western Balkans.
During a congratulatory ceremony for the Italian contingents engaged in international operations, where he spoke with the commanding mission of the Italian KFOR in Kosovo, Mattarella underlined the importance of a calm climate in the region for the integration of the Balkans into the European Union.
"The inclusion of the entire Balkan region in the EU requires calmness. For 25 years, KFOR has been dedicated to this mission. I have followed the situation closely and noticed that local tensions sometimes flare up on purpose, making dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina difficult. Your mission to keep this dialogue alive is vital," said President Mattarella, ANSA reports.
He added that without the presence of KFOR in recent years, there would have been violent explosions that could have destroyed the country. (A2 Televizion)
