After 46 days of the attack on the main Ibër-Lepenc canal in northern Kosovo, it has returned to function today after the physical damage was repaired by Kosovo authorities. This was announced by Kosovo Economy Minister Artane Rizvanolli in a Facebook post.
"The rehabilitated Ibër Lepenci canal entered into operation today. Thank you to the employees for their extraordinary commitment. This is how state assets are needed and protected," the minister writes.
Kosovo authorities estimated that the damage caused by this attack was around 400 thousand euros, while the intended damage was around 2.5 million euros.
On November 29, the Iber-Lepenc canal was attacked with about 20 kilograms of explosives on its side walls, forcing the water flow out of its bed, which endangered the water and electricity supply of part of Kosovo.
The heads of high institutions in Kosovo directly blamed Serbia for this attack, although official Belgrade denied this.
The attack was also condemned by the European Union countries and the United States of America.
The Iber-Lepenc Canal is one of Kosovo's most important assets. It supplies water from Lake Ujman to the entire north of Kosovo, the regions of Mitrovica, Pristina and the surrounding area, as well as to the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) for cooling its thermal power plants. (A2 Televizion)
