After two failed requests, former President Hashim Thaçi has been allowed to stay in Kosovo. On Thursday, he came to the Internal Clinic where his father, who is in serious health condition, is being treated.
After about 3 and a half hours of his stay at the Internal Clinic, former President Hashim Thaçi left the Kosovo University Clinical Center complex under the escort of EULEX forces, writes A2 CNN.
There were heightened security measures during his stay, with EULEX and Kosovo Police forces securing the perimeter around the clinic. The Specialist Chambers confirmed that the reason for the visit to Kosovo was the health condition of Hashim's father.
"For compelling humanitarian reasons, the Trial Panel and the Pre-Trial Judge have instructed the Administrative Office to manage a supervised visit to Kosovo for Hashim Thaçi to meet his father. During this supervised visit, the accused remains in the custody of the Specialist Chambers," was the response from the Specialist Chambers.
Hundreds of citizens gathered near the clinic, cheering and greeting the former prime minister from afar. Also present in the clinic yard were Hashim Thaçi's three brothers, Blerim, Idrizi and Ganiu. The gathered citizens expressed optimism that Thaçi and the others will soon gain freedom.
Hashim Thaçi is indicted by the Specialist Chambers for alleged war crimes and has recently been indicted for obstructing the administration of justice. He has been in detention since November 2020. (A2 Televizion)
