The Basic Prosecutor's Office in Prizren, Department of Serious Crimes, has filed an indictment against five persons, suspected of committing the criminal offense "Misuse of official position or authority" in complicity.
According to the indictment against SM, FT, EM, FM, and V.Sh, the event is related to the assessment of flood damage in the Municipality of Mamusha on January 29, 2021.
The defendants, in the capacity of members of the commission for the assessment of damages, compiled a list of 169 beneficiaries of public financial assistance of 416,874.77 euros. Of this amount, over 120,000 euros were illegally benefited by persons involved in violation of the law or who were not farmers at all.
The chairman of the commission, SM, and his members are accused of exceeding their powers, including 43 farmers in the list of beneficiaries contrary to legal decisions and opinions, as well as introducing 13 other people who were not qualified.
These actions caused considerable material damage to Kosovo's budget.
"With these actions, the above-mentioned defendants have committed the criminal offense of "Misuse of official position or authority", it is stated in the notice of the Basic Prosecutor's Office of Prizren.
The prosecution has asked the court that, after the judicial examination and administration of the evidence, the defendants "be declared guilty and punished" in accordance with the law.
In September, Radio Free Europe published a research that disclosed a scheme involving the municipal officials of Mamusha in the falsification of Kosovo documents.
Mamusha is one of the smallest municipalities in Kosovo, with about 5,600 inhabitants, mostly from the Turkish community.
Mamusha is led by Abdylhadil Krasniq from the Turkish Democratic Party of Kosovo (KDTP)./ REL (A2 Televizion)
