The Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo announced that it has filed an indictment against a suspect for war crimes against the civilian population during the war in Kosovo in 1998-1999.
The suspect, who is on the run, is charged with the crime of war against the civilian population, the Prosecutor's Office said.
"Investigations have proven that the defendant ZP, armed, in cooperation with other members of the Serbian police and military forces, participated in the killing, wounding, mass deportation and looting of civilian citizens of Albanian nationality who were not involved in the war ", the announcement states.
The prosecutor requested that the trial against him take place in absentia, since the defendant is on the run. Holding trials in absentia is provided for when the accused waives the right to be present at court hearings.
From 2000 to 2008, war crimes in Kosovo were investigated by the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), while from 2008, by the European Union Rule of Law Mission (EULEX). (A2 Televizion)
