Will the Parliament vote for the Kurti Government? The Serbian List answers

The Serbian List – the largest party of Kosovo Serbs supported by Belgrade – said on Wednesday that it will not support the Vetevendosje Movement of the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, for the formation of the new Kosovo Government.

In a reaction on Facebook, the Serbian List said that "the statements of Kurti's closest associates about the alleged support announced by Serbian List MPs are a pure lie."

"We are absolutely certain that the representatives of Vetëvendosje are also aware of this, but the lies they are spreading clearly serve their internal games, which is why we publicly reject them," said the Serbian List.

The Serbian List – which won 9 of the 10 seats guaranteed for the Serb minority in the February 9 elections for the Kosovo Assembly – did not mention names in its announcement when it said Kurti associates had made such statements.

However, Kosovo's acting Foreign Minister, Donika Gërvalla, said on Tuesday that there may be a "tendency among some deputies" of the Serbian List to vote for the Vetëvendosje Movement to form the new Government, with the aim of "staining it."

Gërvalla was asked on Tëvë1 about several phone messages from the acting Minister of Administration and Local Government and the leader of the New Democratic Initiative of Kosovo (IRDK), Elbert Krasniqi, during the failed constitutive session of the Assembly on Tuesday, which mentioned several deputies from the Serbian List who could vote for a Kurti government.

"There could be a split in the Serbian List and some of them, in order to discredit this coalition in front of the Albanian public, could give the vote that we did not ask for. We need to prepare the public for this, because we cannot tie their hands," she said.

Gërvalla reiterated that it was "a mistake" that the Serbian List was certified for these elections.

Vetëvendosje has consistently denied possible cooperation with the Serbian List and had fought its certification for the February 9 elections, but the Supreme Court of Kosovo had approved its participation in the elections.

Vetëvendosje won the February 9 elections, with around 42 percent of the vote, or 48 seats out of 120 in the Kosovo Assembly.

It needed at least 61 seats to form the new government.

Kurti had been negotiating with 10 non-Serb minority parties to form a new government, but was rejected by the Democratic League of Kosovo, the party that received the most votes after the LVV.

The Kosovo Assembly failed on Tuesday to constitute the composition of the new legislature and it is not clear when it will convene again./ REL (A2 Televizion)
