Russia does not give up its propaganda against Kosovo, which it continues to cite as an example to justify the invasion of Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Slavs are being treated with open racism in the West, and this, according to him, is evident in the stance towards the separation of Kosovo from Serbia and the return of the Crimean peninsula to its homeland, writes A2.
In an interview with the Russian newspaper "Kommersant", Lavrov repeated his criticism of the West, which he claims is violating the inviolability of borders guaranteed by the UN Charter. According to the Russian foreign minister, at the time of Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence, there was no military operation or any danger to the population, and Resolution 1244 guaranteed the return of Serbian police and border guards to what he calls the province.
"They didn't care about that. They just set a course for secession. The UN representative, Martti Ahtisaari, stood up and said that Kosovo is independent - without a referendum, nothing. The Americans told him 'it must be done' and he did it," Lavrov claimed.
He then moved on to the case of Russia, which he says took over Crimea after a referendum and this was not accepted by the West.
"So, we Slavs can't, but Albanians can?" Lavrov further raises the question in his interview. (A2 Televizion)
