Accusations of vote theft, LVV-PDK clash over creation of an investigative

The creation of a commission to investigate some concerns raised regarding the voting process has clashed the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic Party of Kosovo at Tuesday’s meeting at the Central Election Commission.

PDK demanded that the CEC itself investigate the allegations about the “Bulgarian train” at a school in Gjakova, in parallel with the prosecution. Meanwhile, another concern was raised about a ballot box in Mitrovica.

“Box 020706 [vj in Gjakova] which is the subject of the investigation, that box has been numbered. I request that it be removed from the result until a final investigation. We also have a problem with box 110207 in Mitrovica, and this should also be addressed and investigated by a commission that you will have to create,” said Ilir Gashi, a member of the CEC, PDK.

Representatives of the Vetëvendosje Movement were against, saying that such requests are undermining the credibility of the Central Election Commission.

“The [investigation] bodies are dealing with the box in Gjakova and we do not need to take any further action. As for the Mitrovica case, as far as I am informed by the director of electoral operations but also by the MEC and IKKZ themselves, they have sent a report on this box and apart from the technical problems this box has, no other problems regarding the process have been reported”, said Alban Krasniqi, member of the CEC, LVV.

Another investigation was also requested for voting for people with special needs, where PDK claimed violations for voting at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo where hospitalized people were registered to vote.

“Another issue, voting at the UCCK on Sunday where it was done until 23:00-23:30 in an illegal procedure because voting closes at 19:00 according to the law”, said Ilir Gashi, member of the CEC, PDK.

"Many citizens who registered were unable to exercise their right to vote because services were not provided or were provided late, as in the case of Pristina, at around 6:30 PM, half an hour before the voting time closed," said Alban Krasniqi, member of the CEC, LVV.

Investigations were also requested for 729 voters who during the registration period were scheduled to vote at polling stations open at embassies and consulates abroad but had also sent their votes by mail. The CEC said it will check through the voter list to confirm whether there was any double voting. (A2 Televizion)
