5,000 diaspora votes rejected, CEC on vote counting: We are within planning

The votes of the diaspora, those with conditions, and those with special needs have not yet begun to be counted. This is happening because the process of scanning the list of voters who voted on February 9 at regular polling stations has not yet been completed.

Scanning the voter list is essential as it helps ensure that no one has voted twice, at the regular polling station and at the conditional polling station. However, diaspora votes for those who voted physically at embassies and consulates may begin soon.

"We have discussed the possibility of starting on Wednesday the counting of votes that are part of the voting in the diplomatic missions in which the electoral process was held on February 8, 2025, meaning more than 15 thousand ballots are involved," said Valmir Elezi, spokesperson, CEC.

In addition to physical voting, the diaspora also had the opportunity to vote by mail.

The CEC has completed the process of evaluating or verifying these packages with ballots and out of 69 thousand packages, about 63 thousand were approved while about 4 thousand and 900 were rejected. This number may increase during the counting process if there are no ballots inside the envelopes.

"The reason why these submissions were rejected is that they were sent by people who were canceled during their registration as voters outside Kosovo, they are missing their registration receipt, they were sent more than once, they sent more than one ballot, and other reasons," said Valmir Elezi
, spokesperson for the CEC.

The Central Election Commission says there are no delays in the count despite criticism of them and that they are on schedule to announce the final results.

"The announcement of the final results for political entities is planned to take place no later than March 5, 2025, while the certification that takes place after the completion of any appeals and decisions on them at the ECAP and the Supreme Court is planned to take place by March 18," said Elezi.

In addition to counting diaspora votes, conditional and special needs votes also remain to be counted.

The number of envelopes with ballots from conditional polling stations is over 12,800 which will also be subject to verification. Meanwhile, the number of votes from persons with special needs is around 2,600. (A2 Televizion)
