The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, congratulated the leader of the CDU in Germany, Friedrich Merz, and that of the CSU, Markus Soeder, on their victory in the federal elections on February 23.
"Our countries share a long history of excellent relations and I look forward to deepening our close ties in the years to come," Osmani wrote on the 'X' platform.
The CDU/CSU alliance won the elections with 28.5 percent of the vote.
Its leader, Merz, is now expected to begin talks to choose a coalition partner.
He has ruled out the possibility of cooperation with the far-right Alternative for Germany party, which came second in the election.
Three years ago, Merz met with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
The topic of that meeting was European integration and the Western Balkans, according to a statement from the Prime Minister of Kosovo at the time.
Germany is among Kosovo's main supporters in the European Union.
With over 260 soldiers currently, it has been part of the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo since the end of the war in 1999.
Germany was also among the first countries to recognize Kosovo's independence in 2008.
