The Ambassador of the UK in Kosovo appeals to the CEC: Respect the law, not

The Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, has asked the Central Election Commission to respect the legal procedures in the case of the certification of the Serbian List.

"I call on the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kosovo to ensure that the election process is carried out with integrity and based on fair legal procedures, and not on political interests," wrote Hargreaves.

On December 23, the Central Election Commission (CEC) did not certify the Serbian List - the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo - for participation in the February 9 parliamentary elections.

Representatives of the ruling party, Lëvizjes Vetëvendosje (LVV), oppose the certification of this party - which enjoys the support of official Belgrade - mentioning that this party does not recognize the state of Kosovo, and does not refer to it by its official name, but as "Kosovo and Metohija".

In his response, UK Ambassador Hargreaves urged the CEC and its members to be inclusive and transparent.

"We expect the CEC and all its members to evaluate the certification of the Serbian List according to a comprehensive, transparent and consistent implementation of the relevant regulations," said Hargreaves.

The Serbian List has considered the decision as illegal.

The Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, claimed on Monday that the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, is trying to "eliminate the only opponent" in Kosovo, the Serbian List.

Later, Vucic said that he also talked with the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, about what he considered violations of international law by Pristina, making it impossible for the Serbian List to participate in the elections./ REL (A2 Televizion)
