"The progress of Kosovo and Serbia towards integration into the European Union depends directly on the normalization of relations between the two states".
It is this message that the representative of the EU for dialogue, Miroslav Lajčak, takes care to repeat this year-end. According to him, the process will continue only if the tensions subside and the parties bear responsibility for the events of 2023.
"In dialogue, although progress has been slower than I had hoped, what we have achieved continues to be primarily for the benefit of citizens in both countries. However, I am encouraged by recent small steps forward, such as the establishment of the Joint Commission on Missing Persons. Just before the holidays, I organized my 31st meeting of chief negotiators Bislimi and Petkovic. The talks took place in a busy week for the Western Balkans, where a clear message was sent that there will be no EU integration without the normalization of relations. A detailed work plan is expected next year, approved by all EU member states. They describe the expectations for the implementation of the Ohrid Agreement 2023", emphasizes Lajçak, who mentions as priorities the mitigation of tensions, responsibility for the attacks of 2023, the reunification of Kosovo Serbs, the creation of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority and the recognition of documents and symbols of Kosovo.
