Just 5 days before the Kosovo primary elections, Albin Kurti is facing a strong blow from the United States. Trump's special envoy for missions, Richard Grenell, has denied the prime minister's claims that his government's relations with the new administration in Washington are very good. In a harsh message, with which Grenell seems to aim to influence Sunday's elections in Kosovo, he describes Kurti as an unreliable partner who has taken unilateral actions. According to Grenell, the international community is united against Kurti, reports A2 CNN.
"I have many friends in Kosovo and Albania and many friends in Serbia and around the region. The Trump administration has worked and will continue to work for peace in the Balkans. But we need reliable partners. The Kurti government was not reliable during Trump's first term nor during the Biden administration. Both Republicans and Democrats have criticized Kurti repeatedly for taking unilateral steps that are destabilizing the region. So have the EU and NATO. The international community is united against Kurti ," Grenell said, according to A2 CNN.
Grenell further adds that American companies are expanding in Albania and Serbia, but not in Kosovo. And this is happening because of Kurti, Grenell says.
"The rhetoric now used by Kurti, claiming that he is close to the US and better than all other governments in Kosovo, is absolutely false. Do not be fooled," A2 CNN quotes Grenell.
According to the American diplomat, the Kosovo Prime Minister has opposed every idea proposed by Presidents Clinton, Bush, Obama, Biden and Trump.
Richard Grenell, who served as special envoy for the Western Balkans in the first Trump administration, has criticized Prime Minister Kurti's approach. However, he has maintained warm relations with Serbia and has been honored with an award by President Vučić. (A2 Televizion)
