Deputies will gather today at 10:00 for the seventh time to constitute the Assembly, while the institutional deadlock has been continuing since April 15, when the constitutive session began.
The Vetëvendosje Movement's candidate for Speaker of the Parliament, Albulena Haxhiu, failed again on Friday to receive the necessary 61 votes. Only 57 MPs voted for her election to the position.
The LVV is insisting on the name of Haxhiu, the MP who is considered a divisive figure by the Democratic Party of Kosovo, the Democratic League of Kosovo, and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo.
A “consultative” meeting called by the LVV was held on Wednesday, after previously, on Monday, the deputy leader of the LVV, Glauk Konjufca, requested “additional time so that the same situation does not repeat itself” and mentioned the need for a “political agreement” for the election of the speaker of the Assembly. The meeting proved unsuccessful, as the continuation on Friday proved.
The chairman of the constitutive session, LVV MP Avni Dehari, said that Europe has not changed its candidacy and confirmed that there is no other attempt to discuss with other parties to find a solution.
"No, we have completed the consultative meeting, now we will continue with the meeting, as planned," said Dehari.
So far, LVV has not given any indication that it will bring forward another name as a candidate for Speaker of the Assembly.
PDK, LDK and AAK say that LVV cannot oblige them to vote for Haxhiu for Speaker of Parliament, while Albin Kurti's party interprets this as a violation, despite the fact that this party's MPs have never voted for any candidate for Speaker of Parliament who did not come from this party.
