Some opposition party deputies in the previous Kosovo legislature have considered President Vjosa Osmani's request to the Constitutional Court for clarification regarding what will happen after July 26, if the Kosovo Assembly is not constituted by then, to be overdue.
Osmani has also requested a temporary measure to suspend the 30-day deadline for the constitution of the Assembly - a deadline that began to be calculated from June 26, the date when the Constitutional Court made the decision.
PDK MP Rashit Qalaj said that the president's request for a temporary measure is wrong, as it gives more time to the Vetëvendosje Movement - the largest party in the Assembly - to continue blocking Kosovo's institutions.
"The President should have addressed the Constitutional Court much earlier, as we have spent a very long time. We have wasted months and we are still not able to find a solution," said Qalaj.
The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, also expressed himself in the same spirit, emphasizing that the situation is not good.
He added that Osman's decision to address the Constitutional Court gives Vetëvendosje a few more days to continue the blockade.
Haradinaj expressed hope that the Constitutional Court will not delay its decisions.
Fatmir Limaj from the Social Democratic Initiative, however, said after the session that the president's request to the Constitutional Court helps the process not only for the constitution of the Assembly, but also for the future.
Despite dozens of attempts, the Kosovo Assembly has failed to be constituted due to political disagreements.
The winner of the February 9 elections, Vetëvendosje, has nominated Albulena Haxhiu for speaker of parliament, but she has not been put to an open vote.
Vetëvendosje insists that the vote be held by secret ballot, but the opposition considers it unacceptable and unconstitutional.
In the midst of this political impasse, the Constitutional Court ruled on June 26 that the Assembly must be constituted within 30 days, but did not clarify what happens in the event of failure to respect this deadline.
Four days before the deadline expired, on July 22, President Osmani requested additional clarifications from the Constitutional Court and a temporary measure to suspend the 30-day deadline./ REL (A2 Televizion)
