President Begaj asks the EU to lift sanctions against Kosovo

Albanian President Bajram Begaj, on the occasion of the state reception for the 17th anniversary of Kosovo's Independence, said that Albania will always be by Kosovo's side, supporting Kosovo in "every initiative, in international organizations, the path towards the EU and new recognitions."

President Begaj asked the EU to lift sanctions against Kosovo and called on member states that have not recognized the Republic of Kosovo to do so.

"Albania and Kosovo are loyal allies of the United States of America and the EU. Allies of the Euro-Atlantic Alliance… We believe that a united Europe is our strategic and vital destination… The non-recognition of Kosovo by some member states is an act that contradicts this commitment. We want these countries to review their decisions and positions and also for the EU to lift the sanctions unfairly imposed on the state of Kosovo," said Begaj at this ceremony.

Begaj honored all those who gave much for Kosovo's independence, starting with President Ibrahim Rugova, Commander Adem Jashari, etc.

"Today and forever we honor the architect of the independence of the Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, the historical leader and president of Kosovo and Adem Demaçi. We honor the legendary commander Adem Jashari and the KLA, we honor the blood of the martyrs, the tears and pain of our mothers," said Begaj, before those present. (A2 Televizion)
