The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, awarded the United States Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, the Order "Dr. Ibrahim Rugova".
Hovenier, who has decided to retire, will leave the mission in Kosovo this month.
Osman appreciated him as more than an ambassador.
"He was with us when the people of Kosovo were victims of heinous crimes, he was with us when he reported on the Reçak massacre, he was with us when we laid the foundations of our independent state, and he was with us during the last years in defense of independence , sovereignty and unbreakable alliance with the USA", said Osmani in a post on Facebook, where he also published a video from the award ceremony.
This order is given to persons whose life work is considered a special contribution to the building of peace, the development of democracy and the cultivation of humanity.
Hovenier was in the ambassador's mission in Kosovo since the beginning of 2022.
While he has constantly expressed support for the country, in some cases he has also criticized, especially the Government, due to some actions that the USA has described as unilateral and uncoordinated.
In an interview given to Radio Free Europe in August, Hovenier said that the partnership with Kosovo "is not what we would hope for".
The criticized actions have had to do with several decisions for the north of Kosovo, inhabited by a majority of Serbs, which the Government of Prime Minister Albin Kurti has described only as an attempt to extend authority throughout the country./ REL (A2 Televizion)
