US envoy for special missions, Richard Grenell, continues his long-distance clash with the Kosovo prime minister. "It is out of touch," writes the official of the administration of President Donald Trump, responding to Albin Kurti's statement during the campaign that "relations between the US and Kosovo are stronger than ever before."
"Relations have never been lower. Albin Kurti has been condemned by the first Trump administration, the Biden administration, NATO, the EU, the American Embassy, Anthony Blinken, etc.," Grenell said, writes A2.
The US official's statement comes just two days before the parliamentary elections in Kosovo. But this is not the first time he has spoken out about Washington-Pristina relations. Through a status on social networks, Grenell wrote that the Trump Administration will continue to work for peace in the Balkans, but it needs reliable partners, while determining that the Kurti government is not one of them.
"Republicans and Democrats have consistently criticized Kurti for taking unilateral actions that destabilize the region. There has also been criticism from the European Union and NATO," Grenell emphasized on Monday.
The official claimed that the international community is united against Kurti and accused him of having opposed every American proposal made by Presidents Clinton, Bush, Obama, Biden and Trump.
"The rhetoric used by Kurti now, claiming that he is close to the US and has better relations than all other governments in Kosovo, is completely false," Grenell writes.
The prime minister's reaction was this: "We have never had better things, we are also buying 'Black Hawk' helicopters, after the Javelin anti-tank system. The largest grant Kosovo has ever received from America during our mandate was from the Millennium Challenge Corporation for batteries.
