Education unions failed to hold a strike for 6,500 primary school teachers, who are paid less than their colleagues. The pressure on schools, unionists say, has been great and, on the same day, the Minister of Education has extinguished any hope for talks and a solution. Asked by A2 CNN after the government meeting, Ogerta Manstirliu spoke about what she described as a historic increase in teachers' salaries.
The minister responded to the insistence on receiving an answer to the specific case of thousands of primary school teachers by adapting the former 3 years of University to the study cycles according to the current higher education law, writes A2 CNN.
On Wednesday, teachers and trade unionists denounced the salary differential for 6,500 primary school teachers and educators who graduated between 1992 and 1998. Even though they have completed higher education for teachers, which at that time took 3 years at district universities, today the ministry recognizes and financially evaluates them as first-cycle bachelor's degrees, without a master's degree.
This dissatisfaction of teachers comes at a time when the Ministry of Education talks about increased attention to teachers, and even calls on young people to choose teaching as a profession. Meanwhile, teacher training universities, especially those at the lower level, have been sounding the alarm for years that their branches are at risk of closing due to low attendance. (A2 Televizion)
