More than 237 thousand children have benefited from the baby bonus since the government's program began in January 2019. Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the news today on social media, according to him, for the first child, the bonus is 40 thousand lek, for the second child it is 80 thousand lek and for the third child it is 120 thousand lek.
"Good morning and with the pleasant announcement that more than 237 thousand children have benefited from the baby bonus since the start of the government program in January 2019, supporting young families with 40,000 lek for the first child, 80,000 for the second child and 120,000 lek for the third child, I wish you a good day," Rama wrote on Facebook.
A few days ago, A2 CNN reported that the baby bonus is shrinking along with the birth rate. Of the millions that were once given, less than half have been distributed this year. Families living abroad no longer benefit.
But after 6 years in force, A2 CNN reported that the baby bonus scheme will change, bringing it closer to European countries like Greece or Italy. This is with the aim of "enticing" young couples to have more children.
From January 1st of next year, the state will provide money every month from the moment the baby is born until it turns 5 years old.
For the first child, the payment will be 5 thousand lek per month or 60 thousand lek per year, for the second 7 thousand lek per month or 84 thousand lek per year, and for the third 10 thousand lek per month or 120 thousand lek per year, writes A2. (A2 Televizion)
