In a meeting with journalists, the head of the Special Prosecution Office, Altin Dumani, expressed his position on the proposed changes to the Criminal Code.
Dumani has spoken out in favor of several changes, focusing in particular on penalties for types of drugs, where there have previously been proposals from experts in the field for lighter measures against distributors of small doses.
"The debate on the Criminal Code is expected, because it is of vital importance for the rule of law. After the Constitution, in the legal hierarchy. The debate that should be held is whether a new Criminal Code is necessary. I think that some changes should be made for criminal offenses that provide for severe punishments. One case that comes to mind is the production and sale of narcotics. The time has come to differentiate punishments for types of drugs. It should not be the same punishment for cocaine, cannabis, or synthetic drugs," said the head of SPAK.
Further, Dumani stated that they have not yet officially received the draft. " We were not part of the draft. I have seen the position of the Attorney General and in many things I agree with him ," he told reporters. (A2 Televizion)
