Brucellosis, tuberculosis, African swine fever and bird flu are some of the most widespread diseases that are circulating in the country, affecting both cattle and poultry. A mass vaccination is foreseen in some of the categories based on the danger they are in, reports A2 CNN.
Until a mass vaccination, Albania has taken a series of measures to isolate the outbreaks but also to block imports from 10 other affected countries.
"Actually, the measures have been taken to control the outbreak and control the movement of pigs to and from places that are affected by this disease. We have backyard farms which makes it difficult for vets. Brucellosis, Albania has been applying vaccination programs for years, but the innovation is that next year there will be mass vaccination for animals. For which there will be a lot of work", said veterinary doctor Kujtim Mersini.
Although vaccination is being carried out partially in the affected areas, such as brucellosis, tuberculosis or bird flu present risks of being transmitted to humans.
"There are 2 national programs of brucellosis in cattle and small and tuberculosis in cattle. Diseases circulate, there are also cases in humans that are specifically diseases that affect people and we have cases from time to time," the veterinarian said, A2 CNN reports.
But for how long will Albania continue to be affected by these diseases in the country.
"They are endemic diseases, have been and will be for a long time and will require a lot of time. Let's get used to these diseases but without neglecting the necessary measures", continued Mersini.
According to INSTAT, there are about 263,000 cattle in our country, 1.2 million wool, 640,000 sheep and 115,000 pigs. (A2 Televizion)
