Waves up to 3.5 meters and strong winds, sailing in Vlora suspended for another

The hydro-meteorological situation in Vlora was predicted to improve starting from 08:00 this Tuesday morning. This is the time when small vessels and fishing vessels would be allowed to go out to sea. It was initially predicted that after this Tuesday morning there would be an improvement in conditions, but subsequent forecasts showed the complete opposite.

The worsening weather, with rainfall and strong coastal winds, caused the suspension of maritime navigation for these vessels to be postponed.

According to information, the reason for the suspension of navigation was the wind with a speed of 35-40 meters per second. The wind speed, which even in the interior of the city of Vlora reaches up to 25 meters per second. The coastal wind, which has been affecting the city for days, causes waves of up to 3.5 meters in the open sea and up to 2 meters in the bay, making sea navigation impossible.

The coastal wind, with a south-southeast direction, caused the sea force to reach 8 knots in the open sea and 6 knots in the bay, making navigation impossible for these vessels.

It is learned that the ferry line with Brindisi has returned to normal travel to the destination with Italy. Because compared to Monday, there is a slight improvement in hydro-meteorological conditions with sea force up to 8 points, which this ferry can withstand. But due to the weather, it was delayed a few hours more to arrive in Vlora than expected in the official schedule.

According to the Vlora Port Authority, the suspension of maritime navigation has been extended by 24 hours. It is expected that on Wednesday morning there will be a decrease in wind intensity, reducing the strength of the sea and allowing these vessels to set sail. (A2 Televizion)
