Albania seems to no longer be a country prejudiced by foreign countries, and this is also shown by the figures of tourists in recent years, which have been increasing significantly.
But now, our country is also seen as a perfect place to live, especially by Italian pensioners, many of whom have chosen to live a life that is many times better than in Italy, with their pensions several times higher than their Albanian peers.
Corriere del Messogiorno has dedicated a detailed article to 75-year-old Carmine Janpietro, who for more than 10 years has decided to be stationed in Durrës with his wife.
After more than 45 years of working as a mechanic in Puglia, Carmine has retired, but he noticed that with the money he was earning, he could not make a living.
So, in 2015, for the first time, he packed his suitcases and camper van for a journey that is proving to be a never-ending journey back to his country of origin, settling in Durrës.
"Here in Albania, people live very well with an Italian pension," says Karmine, who adds that he didn't come here just for the taxes and expenses, but also for the tranquility he found and the wonderful landscape.
The elderly Italian says that he bought a house by the sea for only 300 euros per month and invites other retirees from his country to consider Albania as a place to spend quality time, underlining that "the day before he had dinner with his friends for only 15 euros, which does not happen in any other country in the world."
